John Everson (born March 14, 1966) is an American author of contemporary horror, dark fantasy, science fiction and fantasy fiction. He is the author of eight novels and six short fiction collections, all focusing on horror and the supernatural. His novel ''Covenant'', was originally released by Delirium Books in 2004 and won the Bram Stoker Award for a First Novel the following year.〔Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel Bram Stoker Award List 2004〕 ==Biography== Everson was born in 1966 and spent most of his childhood in Tinley Park, IL. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in journalism in 1988 and worked for two years at ''The Star Newspapers'' in Chicago Heights, IL, where he began the weekly music review column "Pop Stops."〔(Pop Stops )〕 He wrote this column for the newspaper for nearly 20 years, even after leaving ''The Star'' as a full-time reporter to serve as an editor for the ''Illinois Entertainer'' magazine for four years. It was during his tenure at the ''Illinois Entertainer'' that he began actively writing and submitting short fiction in the horror and fantasy genres. His first two novels feature a reporter, Joe Kieran, as the lead character, drawing on his experience in journalism. In 2000, his first collection of short fiction appeared from Delirium Books,〔Delirium Books' Publication List, 2000〕 a small press publisher of horror fiction which has since released several collectible hardcover editions of Everson books, including his first novel, ''Covenant'', in 2004. ''Covenant'' was reissued mass market paperback publisher Leisure Books in 2008, which also reissued the sequel ''Sacrifice'' in 2009 as well as his next two novels, ''The 13th'' and ''Siren''. His fifth novel, ''The Pumpkin Man'' was released by Leisure's parent company, Dorchester Publishing and has been optioned for production by Shadowcast Pictures. His sixth novel, NightWhere, will be issued by Samhain Publishing in 2012. Both ''Covenant'' and ''Sacrifice'' have been translated into Polish and released by Red Horse and Replika Books. ''Covenant'' has also been translated into Turkish, and is in the process of being translated into French. Everson's work has been featured in numerous anthologies including, ''V-Wars,'' ''Qualia Nous,'' ''Equilibrium Overturned,'' ''All American Horror of the 21st Century,'' ''Necro Files: Two Decades of Extreme Horror,'' ''The Green Hornet Casefiles,'' ''Best New Werewolf Tales (Vol. 1), Best New Vampire Tales (Vol. 1), Best New Zombie Tales (Vol. 2)'' and ''Kolchak: The Night Stalker Casebook''. In addition to writing, Everson is also the publisher of Dark Arts Books. Since 2006, this press has released an average of one four-author anthology per year consisting of multiple stories from each author.
